John Stemler, Brewmaster, and Dominic Capece, Manager, founded Free Will Brewing Company in 2010, and opened to the public in January of 2012.
The pair started brewing as a hobby, but were soon brewing every weekend. Stemler, who majored in biology and minored in chemistry at Ursinus College, said the scientific aspect of brewing beer was “right up [his] alley.”
When friends and family told the duo that their homebrews were so good they should open up their own brewery, they kind of shrugged off the idea. But when people in the beer industry sang their praises, they started to seriously consider it.
Originally, Free Will Brewing Company operated out of an 800-square-foot garage. The garage housed a small scale replica of a commercial brewery. Currently, Free Will Brewing Company operates out of an 8,600-square-foot facility at 410 E. Walnut St. in Perkasie, brews 11 types of beer and is open to the public for tastings, tours and retail sale. Visit www.facebook.com/FreeWillBrewing for hours and news.
